In 2011 the decision was made to start a pedigree herd to supplement the commercial herd. Different genetics where sourced steadily from around the UK, with the key selection criteria being, length, size, health and style.
Animals where sourced from various notable herds including Haltcliffe and Homebyres. The first stock bull was bought for 13000gns at Borderway market February sale.
Alongside Felboy, AI bulls where used to expand the genetic pool of bulls with Huntershall Gladiator and Attirant been the most notable success.
To further expand the Lissett banner further, the conscious decision was made to show locally and it started very well in 2014, with the bull Lissett Lorean (Homebyres Gainsi x Attirant) gaining Reserve Male Champion and both Lincolnshire show and the Great Yorkshire Show. He also received honors at local shows Driffield and Malton picking up overall limousin champion respectively.
We continue to show locally under the Lissett prefix time allowing and recent success through the sale ring have been achieved at Newark, Carlisle, Hexham and Skipton.
In the local herd completion Lissett has won the best small herd for 3 years in a row.
Norman Infusion a new era
February 2015 saw the purchase of Carlisle overall champion Norman Infusion (20,000gns). Purchased for style, sweep, locomotion and an ideal example of the modern day Limousin bull. Infusion’s stock continues to impress with bulls selling locally to commercial and pedigree breeders alike. His heifers are equally impressive, showing excellent meternal qualities.
We pride ourselves on the quality of our 150 head of commerical cattle, with the foundation of pedigree herd the quality of stock has improved ten fold. With young stock fattend on farm and the best kept for breeding we feel we have good confidence and views on what the farm wants in a stock bull. The recently bred Lissett Nolan (Birdies Ingrid x Norman Infusion) has been intended to be retained for commercial breeding after winning Best North East Limousin Best Young bull for 2018. Stock is sold at Malton Market and York Auction Market, recently in 2017 the commercial herd was rewarded with an award for the most top prices sold through York
The French Revolution
After a recent visit to France the views and direction of our vision for the future of both our pedigrees and commercials has changed ever so slightly. With the English market evolving, we have decided to place more emphasis on easy calving and easy fleshing traits, something which the Limousin is renowned for. This has led to our first French purchase (Jac) jointly purchased with Elderberry Limousins.
